The Sunday Post

Friends, we are gathered here today to bid farewell to New Orleans. Thank you for shrimp and grits, for Bananas Foster, and for the great jazz. In all seriousness, Katrina would not be something I would want to stick around and get acquainted with. Thoughts and prayers to all the residents of New Orleans and the surrounding cities. And to all the people "riding it out", please leave. We don't want to read about you tomorrow afternoon in the obits. Be smart. Be safe. The word of the day is "telephony".

The Human Side
Some things people say just confuse the heck out of me. A CNN commentator, in reference to the Isreali pullout in Gaza, paused and said, "We now turn to _____ for a human side to the story". Did I miss something? The "human side of the story"? Exactly which side of this story is not the human side? I don't think the animals much care who lives where, or what the change in the Strip occupation may do for their habitat. The aliens from outer-freaking-space sure haven't weighed in with their stance. The "human side of the story". Unless we're all already in the Matrix, and our robot overlords are controlling the fate of our species, I'm really not sure who in the blue moon this lady was talking about. By the "human side" does she mean apart from the politcal power arena and focusing on the "real" people in this conflict? I have news for you, princess. There's humans on both sides. The people who make the decisions and the people who have to live with them have a unique trait between them. They are distinctly human. If we could have kept that little tidbit of information fresh in our minds, maybe some of the travesties of policy and convenience would have never seen the light of day. The word of the day is "absolute".

The Sunday Post
The Ultimate Fighter. I'm watching last season's finale of the UFC's reality/tryout show. I'm a fan of mixed martial arts events, and it seems that these guys are pretty talented. It is ironic that they subject themselves voluntarily to get the crap beat out of them for a couple months, day in and day out so they can get a job.....where they can get the crap beat out of them. Congratulations, your Chuck Liddell's next victim. Don't remember your name after the fight? That's okay. We don't either. The word of the day is "salubrious".

The Sunday Post
The creative well is still painfully dry. Or perhaps this last week of my life has not been as eventful as others. That may be a good thing. At least nothing has happened that would deserve an annoyed tirade from myself. Maybe it's just the inherent laziness of Sunday afternoons. A good meal after church, nice nap in the air conditioning. Whatever the reason, this post lacks any real depth. Again, just a force of habit. Comforting though, isn't it? The good ole, reliable Sunday Post. Just like an old friend. And by old friend, I mean meaningless paragraph every Sunday for the past three weeks. Seems longer doesn't it? It's because you're as bored as I am. The word of the day is "reconcile".

Semi-Weekly Movie Review: Volcano

This one's a little old. I'm watching it right now on TNT. A giant volcano erupts in the middle of downtown LA. I think this is the first movie I saw with Don Cheadle in it. What a great actor. Tommy Lee Jones is pretty solid. This one came out along wit h Dante's Peak starring Pierce Brosnon (pre-Bond). Advantage: Volcano. Not to mention the tag line: "The Coast is Toast". Gotta love the rhymes, man. I remember watching this one in the theater. I was blown away by the lava special effects. Of course it's only made-for-the-Lifetime-network quality compared to the current fare. Amazing how far they've come. I'm wondering how much gray ash they can drop on Jone's head right now. Well, anyway the word of the day is "rival".

Happy Birthday
Happy birthday, Dustin Hoffman. I'm sure you've had a wonderful day so far. What could a man of your age and talent want for a birthday? Better scripts, my friend. Meet the Failures. At least recently. I hate to see talent like that wasted.
On a side note, I just found out that I share a birthday with General George Patton. Score! The word of the day is "timepiece".

The Sunday Post
This post is here for one thing...consistency. There is no real topic. This post is strictly done out of habit. There have been previous Sunday posts; and since there is a precedent, this one is hastily thrown out as a place holder. No originality here. Nope just pure habitual nature. No moving social commentary, except the fact that a comfort zone is a hard place to leave. I'm even going to adjust the date of the post so it looks like I posted it on Sunday. The word of the day is "charlatan".
